Just take a look around you
Construction is all around
A brand new place where you will
Spend all the time that you've found

And at the end of the day
They've risen up three stories
Where are you compared to where you just were
I bet you're not that much farther off the ground

I know I wish I had as much to show for my work
I wish that it would help people achieve their dreams

Buildings will last for lifetimes
Thousands will make their living
I'd be surprised if you find
A job that's so forgiving

I think we secretly want
To be creating something
Amazing and unique that will shape the way that lives are lived by all
Or at least have a big hand in something equally monumental

And maybe one day it might all make sense to me
But right at this moment I just wish that I could be
Making something the entire world will see

Look up around you
Decades poured into
Not just foundation
Livelihood
And
We're too busy
To notice
The care and craft that went into each one

Standing tall on every block
They tower over all of us
It's easy to feel minuscule
Standing in blanketing shadows

Just remember that they were built by people
Not too different
From yourself, or from me
So just look up

Absorb it all
They'll stand even
After you fall

They'll out live their
Owners, tenants
They have a life
